Rested and Refreshed

Tomorrow I greet my class for the first time in two weeks.  I feel refreshed and ready for the last 10-11 weeks of school.  Over my vacation I signed my class up for an online reading blog where they can post reviews and I can keep track of their independent reading.  Five out of fifteen students have made new avatars for themselves on the Biblionasium website and one of my students wrote a review!  I will require all of them to post a review of a book they read over vacation.  I will also post a review of the books I read as well.

I am excited to begin my poetry unit and I already have a 5th grade class to share poetry with over Skype.  I just have to make sure a few of my kids have written and edited a poem they would like to read by the end of April.  Wish me luck!

Finally, we will begin to study the Great Rift Valley in Africa for our Africa Study.  I plan to use a Skype Swahili lesson to add to my study of Africa.  I also am looking for a class in either Kenya or Tanzania to share introductory handshake videos to introduce my students and per haps for the other students to reply to us.  Let’s hope I can do all of this in 10 weeks!
